Enterprise information archiving (EIA) software combines products and solutions for archiving user messaging content, such as email, instant messaging (IM), SMS, and public and business social media data. This also includes other content types, such as data stored in enterprise file synchronization and sharing (EFSS) platforms, files, website content, and voice. The bulk of EIA spending is for email compliance and retention; however, interest in archiving other sources of additional messaging data is growing. EIA products provide features such as data reduction across content types, retention management, content indexing, and at least basic tools for e-discovery and classification.
File analysis (FA) products analyze, index, search, track and report on file metadata and file content, enabling organizations to take action on files according to what was identified. FA provides detailed metadata and contextual information to enable better information governance and organizational efficiency for unstructured data management. FA is an emerging solution, made of disparate technologies, that assists organizations in understanding the ever-growing volume of unstructured data, including file shares, email databases, enterprise file sync and share, records management, enterprise content management, Microsoft SharePoint and data archives.
Structured data archiving (SDA) software moves data from custom-provided or commercially provided applications to an alternate file system or database management system (DBMS) while maintaining data access and referential integrity. Reducing the volume of data in production instances can improve performance and shrink batch windows. It can also reduce storage acquisition costs, facility requirements, environmental footprints and the cost of preserving data for compliance when retiring applications.
