Eurosteel Uses SPM to Create End-to-End Alignment Within the Group

From humble beginnings, the Eurosteel Group has evolved into South Africa's premier distributor of stainless steel, special steels, aluminum and other corrosion-resisting materials. The group is predominantly based in South Africa but has operations in neighboring countries, all of which combine to actively service southern Africa and beyond. Eurosteel's philosophy has traditionally centered on strategic alliances and partnerships, growth, specific product focus and niche marketing. Today, the group still consists of a broad spectrum of companies trading as independent operations under various brands, with each catering for its particular market sector demands.

The company used SPM to bring its IT system into the boardroom and to align the board requirements with those of its diverse group of companies. The processes within the group and the individual companies were all modeled upfront, thus simplifying the entire process. SYSPRO was able to conceptualize the end-to-end process, ensuring the provision of a quality third-party development solution.

This approach saved a lot of time and energy that would otherwise have been spent on trying to elicit requirements from individuals. It also ensured a single source of truth on which SYSPRO and Eurosteel could base decisions. Ultimately, SPM eliminated a large amount of risk by ensuring that SYSPRO had the same understanding as the customer.

Nic Desilla, CFO of Eurosteel, commented, "The SYSPRO modeling session ensured that our key business objectives were addressed by our IT platform, which included SYSPRO. This exercise also provided rigid and detailed structure to tailor the IT system to our unique requirements."
