Prepandemic we never used cameras
We had team members all over the globe. It was more important to have drawings, spreadsheets, PowerPoints or other shared documents up on the screen. We had “meetings” that were working collaboration and problem solving. In a 10+ year period prior to the pandemic I think I was in conference calls with cameras less than a dozen times. And I had conference calls multiple times per day

It depends upon how much context we need to communicate. Nonverbal communication can amplify or negate what is spoken. If for example, the goal is to see whether managers agree with the direction to project is going then expressions are helpful.
The ability to see a person with high quality video feed can also let you know to have a one to one with a person. Stress can be filtered out of voice calls due to data compression and encryption.
