To add to Dave Legg's insights, consider incorporating regular security assessments and user feedback into your optimization process. It’s also beneficial to have a clear protocol for handling unexpected issues and to stay updated on industry best practices to keep your digital identity management robust and responsive.

We've moved from an in-house system to one of the top 2 Digital Identity management solutions/suppliers, this was essential to keep up with the evolving digital identity management landscape.
What we've learned is that you need to consider resilience, i.e. what happens if the IAM solution isn't working,  and ensure your contract includes testing sign-off in a non-prod' environment for supplier updates.
If the testing sign-off is not possible then either a canary release mechanism or a longer lead time in notification of changes to ensure a SaaS update doesn't lead to login failures and unhappy customers.
