Do you ever encounter performance issues with Desktop as a Service (DaaS)?

We are currently doing proof of concept with Azure Virtual Desktop. For day-to-day employees, there is not much of an impact, most of the apps they use are SaaS anyway, but for certain departments, it might not be a good solution from a performance perspective. The performance is not the same as running on a local nvme drive with i7 or i9 CPU and I don't think it will ever be.

The biggest complaint I am expecting from our Development team as they do a lot of code compilation locally before it's pushed to cloud repo and this will likely be affected by DaaS.

Another option that we are considering is publishing just applications and accessing them vs the whole destkop.

I’m kicking the tires on Azure for Windows 11. I just keep cranking mine up. The experience is great, and it's basically web RDP. You can crank up the resources as much as you want, and I really don't see any difference from an actual desktop in the performance I get. It was crappy when I had four megs of RAM in it, but when I upgraded to 16 and added more CPU, then it worked pretty well. I tried to do meetings, but the audio is funky because you have to do all these pass throughs to get to your headsets, etc., so it's not effective for that. But if you're just watching YouTube videos, it's fine.

Performance is still a problem I have with desktop as a service today. You don't get the performance that you get from your standard laptop. My experience is that anytime you do a virtual desktop, there’s too much of a lag when you do video conferencing and you get echo. I know there are ways around it, but it's not easy.
