What's the best change you've made or process you've implemented to optimize your delivery logistics?

There are different ways of doing it, but I’ll share three things we did that made a huge impact when it comes to delivery:
Time slot restriction: We noticed that customers in distant ZIP codes were placing orders for deliveries for a geographical area that had no other customers that day. This means that their order would be the only one in a delivery truck/van, which was super expensive for us. As a result, we set restricted delivery days to specific areas. For example, a particular part of a city may now only be eligible to receive deliveries on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays for us to optimize van routes with more orders per trip.
Route optimization: We combined nearby zones and zip codes to optimize routes and ensure that vans efficiently picked up orders from one route to another, maximizing delivery efficiency.
Time slot availability: We established a process to monitor time slot availability. If there were fewer than three time slots for customers to choose from when placing an order, we added more slots to meet the demand. This helped us cater to customer preferences and increase order volumes, especially in nearby zones.

I'm always looking for the below factors in any business:
1. are the terms & conditions with customers clear and aligned to what we actually CAN do?
2. if there are changes in our delivery network/rules/providers/our rules internally etc, then are these properly followed up/communicated/educated internally and externally?
3. do we have terms or rules of delivery with which we shoot ourselves in the leg (so to speak)? - might have been promised earlier or similar
If we can answer these, we can easily weed out those T&Cs, rules and service hindering aspects that have no room in our business and success is guaranteed.
