With the shift towards skills based organizations - would like to understand if and how (i.e. with what technology) organizations are evaluating skills as part of the interview process for candidates?

Not sure that there is a shift toward skills based organizations. The need for specific skills has always been there, be it to build a PPT or write a contract or code in C++. Depending on the skills that are needed for a particular process, the interview content is adapted to ensure that the skills sought are assessed appropriately during the interview process.
Agree I think the shift is away from cumbersome competency maps/models or career paths that change too frequently and become outdates and unsustainable.
in my previous organization we hired programmers, so we gave them a problem and asked them to write a piece of code to show how they would solve it then had a member of the programming team review the code for accuracy. In off-shore roles, we gave an English written and speaking exam to demonstrate communication skills. For other roles we gave a knowledge assessment using scenarios to guage critical thinking and problem solving skills.

1. We conduct skill-based assessments for freshers, covering areas such as coding, logical reasoning, and AI orchestration. For lateral hires, customized skill-based assessments in MCQ/coding format according to the role requirements. Also have specific certification criteria that must be met to qualify for the interview process for certain tech roles
