For those who use 5-point rating scales for performance - does your company have an ideal target % for each rating to ensure distribution and differentiation? If so, can you share the company targets for each? We are having a hard time finding data/research on this specific practice.

We have a 4-rating scale. Our target/expectation (not mandatory) is around Rating 4. Up to 15% of the workforce is expected to achieve that rating. Between 16% and 20% require Divisional approval or conversation. We do not have a set expectation of the other ratings

Hi, Please find here a paragraph with some information that could help you. "...Gaussian Bell: The notion of the Gaussian bell refers to the graphical representation of a normal statistical distribution linked to a variable, whose representation is bell-shaped. To understand it quickly, what it represents is that in a central space that represents around 80% the majority of values are concentrated, and that on the right and left a space of approximately 10% is left for each space where some values appear below what was expected (on the left) and some values above what was expected (on the right). What do companies represent with this, that 80% of their workers have an expected performance, that 10% have it below what was expected, and 10% above....."

We have a performance scale of three and no mandatory distribution. Although that, we suggest the following distribution: 10% below - 70% Meets - 20% above. Hope to help!
