Cool Vendors: Where Are They Now?

This year, Gartner looks back at a Cool Vendor profiled in 2009 and provides an update on where software vendor Strategic BCP is today.

Why Cool Then? Strategic BCP's ResilienceONE tool has an integrated technical architecture and methodology that begins where BCM should – with business process and resource mapping – and ends with real-time incident management. The methodology embedded in ResilienceONE was developed to begin by decomposing business processes into detailed steps, providing enterprises with the optimal approach to defining recovery plans. The opposite approach – beginning by defining recovery requirements (technical or business) without understanding the business process – is all too frequently the way recovery planning is done.

Where Are They Now? Strategic BCP is still very active in the BCMP market, and ranked as a leader in Gartner's 2014 Magic Quadrant for Business Continuity Management Planning Software report. They have had much success with their pricing model that is based on flat-rate pricing for unlimited users rather than the number of plan administrators (most common approach amongst its competitors), with their Genome function that maps to many BCM and risk management standards to provide a detailed compliance view of the organization as well as with their focus on the ease of use of their tool and integration into the business processes.
