High Value Information Infrastructure Projects

Organizations that have been able to link information infrastructure projects to business objectives have had a greater impact on business results, often driving innovation and competitiveness. How do they do it? There are several proven approaches, but three are highlighted here:
  • Enter new markets with new information-based products and services.
  • Compliance and security projects that result in reduced operational and legal costs.
  • Unexpected efficiency increases resulting from better cross-organization communication.
In each of these cases, IT plays a more valuable role in the organization. IT is no longer viewed as a cost center or a necessary evil; but instead becomes a more critical partner. IT departments see increased visibility, responsibility, and funding levels. In short, IT becomes more important to the organization.
