How Multiple Identity Solutions Are Tackling BYOD Concerns

Enterprise Mobility Exchange recently conducted a study, which found that the key priority investments for 2014 and beyond would include mobile applications (47.6%) followed closely by BYOD devices and Mobile Device Management (MDM).

In this new report from industry analysts at Gartner, 40 percent of U.S. employees of large enterprises currently use personally owned devices for work. With 95% of enterprises now permitting employee-owned devices in the workplace, the days of IT issuing corporate-owned device (separate from a user's personal device) are becoming very rare. Any BYOD/COPE needs to be done in a manner where users can have personalization while meeting IT security and reimbursement policies.

The benefits of implementing a BYOD policy are now well established, meaning that BYOD has become mainstream. New trends around BYOD are evolving, such as enterprise security and individual privacy/preference. In this next wave of BYOD, industry analysts are now predicting that Multiple Identity Management and "Identities as a Service" will become a $20+ billion dollar addressable market over the next 2-3 years.

Multiple Identity Management solutions are now allowing employers and employees to easily and effectively split the functionality of a user's mobile phone so that personal calls, texts and other information is kept private; data from the corporate enterprise is kept secure; and billing expenses can be separated and managed more easily. As the acceptance rate of BYOD within enterprises continues to grow, issues such as security and separate billing have become critical IT needs. Over the past few years, some of the major telecom carriers, such as AT&T, have delivered offerings that enable employees to have multiple lines on a single device. However, this service is not able to deliver the same quality of service as those connected via landline or WiFi. As a result, calls become weak or drop off as the user walks or drives away from a dedicated WiFi connection.

While mobile device management (MDM) services are currently available help to resolve a subset of BYOD issues, new solutions in the market, such as Movius' myIdentities, advances current MDM functionality, and makes them relatable and usable by leveraging VoIP and cellular TDM to offer users a much higher quality of service and improved user experience, further aiding BYOD acceptance.
