The Salient Point: Special Edition

A New Era of Collaboration

For over 25 years our customers have come to know our performance management solution as a tool that helps users handle huge volumes of data quickly and easily, and drill down to specific information and its impact on outcomes.

In 2002, we introduced the powerful UXT analytical database, which brings the "power of integration" and bottom line productivity analytics into the high-speed performance monitoring world of Salient Interactive Miner, also known as Margin Minder.

We've now entered a new phase, known as "collaborative intelligence," which is the fusion of analytical information and "unstructured" data, such as photos, videos, comments, instructions and other media, and the sharing of this knowledge among peers, departments, with suppliers, customers and other business partners. This type of intelligence adds another level of value to understanding and institutionalizing the organizational processes so that they can be shared instantly and visually with peers, managers, customers, partners and suppliers from anywhere and on any device. Data communication and collaboration is not a privilege in today's business environment. It is mission critical.

In its 2012 Magic Quadrant for Business Intelligence, Gartner identified "Putting the Focus on Decision Support" as one of its top six trends that directly impact the direction of the BI platforms market. According to the report, "Decision making is such a fundamental activity to the success of any organization, whether it is a for-profit, not-for-profit, or government organization, that improving it is by far the No. 1 driver of BI and analytics investment." Yet, the report pointed out, "Most BI platforms are deployed as systems of performance measurement, not for decision support. This is changing as organizations are recognizing that analytic capabilities are just one (albeit critical) piece of the decision process. We see more use cases where user-designed scenarios/ models simulate possible performance outcomes and contributors iterate on the model until there is consensus on the best decision to take. Some are beginning to automate repeatable, operation decisions in analytic applications – intelligent decision automation – and implement collaborative decision-making platforms around analytic capabilities to improve the quality and transparency of tactical and strategic decisions where collaboration between decision makers is critical to the outcome."

I agree that intelligence collaboration is the key to effective decision making within any organization, and that notion is at the very core of the Salient Collaborative Intelligence Suite v. 5.0, which launched on March 1, 2012. This truly breakthrough technology suite will offer customers a new standard for user-driven investigation, discovery and communication across the entire organization and beyond. It will allow companies to democratize the use of intelligence both inside and outside of traditional organizational boundaries so that everyone can have whatever information they need to make the best possible decisions – at their fingertips at all times.

A varied toolset provides access to suit the user's skills and information needs. From deep-dive analytics to drillable dashboards running on laptops, tablets and smart phones on both cloud-based and local networks. 5.0 allows for the transfer of business management processes from one person to another or throughout the entire organization via a formal series of documented analytics. It virtually eliminates the need for colleagues to duplicate an analytical process.

The Salient 5.0 Suite represents a major shift in emphasis from individual analysis to a truly collaborative environment. Everyone can have the information they need at their fingertips and at all times, and it's shareable and usable everywhere.

As always, if you would like to discuss any aspect of your business or ours, feel free to email me directly.
