I think this is a great move - up there with right to be forgotten, and anti-spam practices. 

The customer should still be liable for what they signed up for (e.g. if they committed to a 12 month sub, that should stand) but you shouldn't need to have to go through a complex process to cancel. 

The liability requirement is to ensure that customers are still reading the terms and conditions of what they signed up for - they can't absolve themselves of all accountability.
