I’ve found that organizational structures work for a period of time but are continually sub-optimal because the organization in whole is evolving, the business strategy continually changes and the economic environment is always changing. My recommendation is to structure for about 2 years into the future and transition as quickly as possible and monitor for performance. Then as you monitor, you will likely realize an adjustment will be required in 2-3 years and a full reorganization in 5-6 years. Do not reorganize more frequently or people won’t settle in to optimal performance and output. (IMHO)
