I have found that the best leaders explain why a change is required. They also involve several members of the team in the evaluation and trial of the new technology. The trial allows the evaluators to identify and resolve any issues or concerns that could arise during a full scale implementation and mitigate them.
Then they use the team members to conduct the training of the new technology during the full implementation. There are fewer "naysayers and non-adopters" when the sales team sees their peers conducting the training, actively using the technology and explaining how the new technology will benefit them.
Lastly, everyone needs to begin using the technology in a learning environment to ensure immediate understanding and usage. Monitor adoption by tracking on-going usage and offer additional assistance and training where needed.
Leadership is key. They need to use the technology too.
Get high impact and respected team members to evangelise the change and the tech. People often look to those who are doing well (if they're respected).
Tie performance and rewards into the technology to gain adoption. People behave the way they are incentivized. Especially Sales and Revenue focused people!! Provide the training, but explain why it's important to the business (understanding the big picture) and to the sales person (motivation).
