First and foremost, you need to make sure that change management is a core part of that implementation. Any time you introduce a new tool, the new technology will throw your users off completely, even if processes are the same or similar. The earlier change management starts in a project, the greater the success. Once you have change management in place, it’s about the proper communications, building awareness, and the early desire to get engaged people on board. Next, it’s about finding outstanding business process owners. Initiatives cannot be IT-; they have to be business LED. Ask yourself, “How do you relate to the core business processes?” to get into that mindset, and then make sure you have the right champions in place in your business functions that drive and support the change. The third part is ensuring that you have the right testing in place and the right processes developed ahead of time to prepare your team for go-live so there are no surprises.
