Yes, I’m concerned about burnout in my department. It’s a common issue in product and tech due to high demands and fast pace. We use AI to dramatically improve efficiency and reduce burnout. For example, AI speeds up research so product managers can focus on investment decisions. It also drafts product requirements, allowing PMs to spend more time reviewing and refining user stories instead of starting from scratch.

I am concerned but since I am in the VP SCM and Procurement. I started a program SCM A Place to Be! Which has been bringing a significant improvement in HC TO no more or very little PR opens and e-nps move from -19 to +15 as of today.

Burnout is a critical issue in IT and cybersecurity due to relentless threats, high-pressure incidents, and talent shortages. While we can’t eliminate external stressors, we prioritize resilience through structured support—regular workload reviews, mental health resources, and a culture that values sustainable performance over heroics. Psychological safety is non-negotiable; teams perform best when they can voice concerns without fear.

We seem to have quite a few things happening at the same time, a proverbial perfect storm. We have a workforce that is feeling pressure to return to the office more and more. We have continued cost reduction initiatives that tighten belts and expect more work for less. We have the pressure of AI looming and the idea that it could replace us. We have the political situation where things are changing rapidly with the expectations that systems will instantly reflect said changes. And with the crash of the market, see our 401ks going backwards a couple years in value.
All of this certainly has me worried about team burnout. We all want work-life balance. But many of my team are unfortunately tipping the balance towards work more and more to ensure continued employment and/or advancement. And this will lead to burnout. It is nice to think that all this too shall pass, but as a leader i worry that my team will not all make it out the other side. I wish i could share some great responses and tricks to counter but I find myself in the same boat as my team. I try to tell myself and them that we are in for the long game. And in times like these, we need to maintain the work-life balance now more than ever. I know that this is easier said than done, but as a leader we need to enforce it every day and demonstrate it through our actions. That's it, i am taking the rest of the day off, just as soon as my 6 hours of meetings is done and i send out a couple emails.....
