It totally depends on the stage at which the technology is in place.
You should think through the prospect of the business and its business model. Whether the technology is going to be an enabler or is it going to be the centre of the business. If it is just an enabler, then the risk is lower but if the technology is going to be the centre of the business then the risk is higher.
The negotiation should happen on the basis of the domain expertise, dependency on the technology and what are other expertise the person is bringing to the table and not just technical skills like software development.
So, In my opinion, it would be depending on these points the negotiation can vary between 2 - 10% and it can go higher if the tech is already in place (it may not be full but working).
