Apart from compliance concerns, what are the toughest roadblocks currently preventing organizations from adopting AI-enabled security solutions?

You’re absolutely right about costs. Another major concern is privacy. When enabling AI for security, there are questions about what sensitive data these solutions will process. Privacy issues arise around where the data is going, whether it is being used to train vendor models, and what guardrails can be put in place. It is important to understand what data is being utilized to improve security. Beyond these concerns, our organization is very technology-driven and moving quickly, which presents its own challenges in terms of keeping up with the pace of AI adoption.
The skills gap is another significant obstacle. There is a need for better understanding and training to leverage these technologies effectively, not just from a security standpoint but also from a business perspective. Many of us are having to learn and adapt in real time to keep up with the advancements in AI.

One of the biggest challenges is the cost. Cybersecurity tooling is already incredibly expensive, and presenting a new, unproven solution to the board of directors or trustees is difficult, especially when the existing suite of tools is substantial. Building a business case for additional investment in an AI-enabled solution, particularly if it is untested and not widely adopted, is a significant hurdle. Additionally, as security leaders, we are constantly managing risk, and introducing new tools can potentially increase risk, which is another major roadblock that must be considered.
