What benefits have you seen from vendor consolidation? Has it produced any unexpected benefits?

In relation to a single pane of glass, one of the benefits realized is the reduced workload for integrations. Without vendor consolidation, you would be working with numerous different vendors and technologies, which can be time-consuming and require a lot of effort. So, consolidating to one set of tools as opposed to multiple sets is a significant benefit.
Another non-technical but administrative benefit is the reduction in the number of vendors, which also reduces the amount of management needed for those vendors. This includes contract negotiations, terms, pricing, and so on.
As for unexpected benefits, the reduction in the need for training on various technologies due to everyone using the same set of tools from one vendor is a benefit. However, from our perspective, this would be categorized as an expected benefit rather than an unexpected one. But I can see how it could be unexpected for others.
One of the benefits we have seen from vendor consolidation is the ability to have a lot of the necessary tools in the same set.
By consolidating vendors, organizations can unlock significant benefits. Firstly, they can leverage their increased buying power to negotiate better pricing, discounts, and terms, leading to substantial cost savings across various areas. This also simplifies vendor management, streamlining processes like procurement, invoicing, and relationship management, which translates to reduced administrative overhead and costs. Furthermore, consolidating vendors strengthens negotiation leverage, allowing companies to secure more favorable terms in areas like pricing, service levels, and contracts. This fosters deeper relationships with a smaller number of key partners, improving communication, collaboration, and strategic alignment, which ultimately enhances service quality. Finally, the process of selecting, onboarding, and paying vendors becomes streamlined, reducing complexity and minimizing the potential for errors.
Beyond cost savings and administrative efficiency, consolidating vendors unlocks several strategic advantages. Stronger partnerships with fewer providers foster collaboration on innovation, as they become more invested in developing custom solutions or tailoring services to your specific needs. This streamlined landscape simplifies compliance and risk management, making it easier to adhere to regulations and manage data security concerns. Additionally, vendors valued as key partners are incentivized to maintain high service levels, translating to better quality and reliability. Streamlined communication and deeper understanding with fewer vendors often lead to faster response times for service requests, issue resolution, and project implementation. Consolidating vendors also frequently paves the way for a more unified and compatible technology stack, minimizing interoperability issues and supporting a smoother IT infrastructure.
