What is the future of VDI? Does your organization plan to move away from VDI or do you plan expand your virtual desktop footprint as part of the future of the digital workplace?

VDI has an important part to play in current and future architecture. Depending on the nature of your workers, VDI can provide a secure remote working option with less overhead and more flexibility than a traditional VPN solution as well as more control of the security and patching of the key devices where applications are hosted (server rather than client devices). It will always carry an additional backend/server workload requirement as the heavy lifting for applications is completed on the server end. For it to be effective it needs to be designed properly with a good understanding of usage and expansion requirements.
We are currently sizing a VDI solution for a particular user group and if successful and resources are available we will expand the service to other groups.
In high-security environments, particularly in government organizations such as police and secret services, VDI serves as the primary gateway to backend systems, ensuring essential access security. Given its critical role, VDI, in my opinion will remain and potentially expand in the foreseeable future.
