How have people approached measuring trust and in particular, leadership trust within an organization? Apart from outsourcing the process entirely, has anyone done so in-house and if so, how have they approached doing this?

Measuring trust, especially in leadership, is crucial as it serves as a barometer of organizational health. High trust levels lead to better collaboration, engagement, and innovation, while low trust can result in dysfunction, turnover, and decreased performance. Every year we conduct Great Place to Work Survey which has trust specific questions. Moreover the Great Place to Work Culture Audit framework is also a great measure of organization’s trust index, which also measures fairness, credibility, camaraderie & respect.
Other than GPTW, 360 degree feedback is also a great assessment tool to measure trust, where the workforce gives feedback on leadership, peers & supervisors.
