Agree with Kamal and Ali. The CIO needs to be involved strategically as the technology strategy will impact the employees and customers. IT is so critical to every aspect of the business today. A CIO should work closely with HR and a chief strategy officer or CEO.

Not sure about the intent of the question. So far I've not been involved. But very keen to be part of such conversations as I have views and opinions around it. No doubt today Technology should be leveraged to grow business as the potential it has is tremendous in terms of growing business. Everyone today talks about digital transformation, customer 360 etc., these are not buzzwords anymore but bread and butter stuff. What I have seen in organizations is that, only those organizations which closely study the customer and understand their problems and needs are more successful in applying Technology and addressing those needs. Implementation of Technology maybe easier and given the plethora or technologies and vendors available today almost anything is possible, BUT, coming up with a idea and method to apply it, to solve real world issues is more difficult and requires involvement from all. Coming to who has to drive large transformations, definitely it is the CIO. He has to partner with all departments within the organization to effectively drive initiatives. He needs to have the power to influence business, product development, sales, marketing, HR and other stakeholders.

Well for us as we are a young startup going B2C technology plays a very important role in terms of enabling our value value proposition. We often want to use scale able technologies without incurring too much technical debt. I guess for majority of companies we worked with in the past often misunderstood technical debt. By doing so they often find themselves in the traps like restrictions on functionality, outsourcing  to third party for specific support or using third party micro services but if a right balance of right platforms and technologies be discussed alongside with scope of product to handle 100X scale that should be a good stating point. So inshort as a key decision maker we believe we always go with platforms and technologies with a right balance of technical debt.

Very involved. I would say growth hacking via technology in today's age is the quintessential resource for any organization.  Anyone not involved in progressing their department forward with technology isn't thinking about the future of that organization.
