We have a central Corporate Procurement function that handles all procurement duties that are common to all divisions for those types of items. The business units have their own Procurement departments for their specialties. Example - Aerospace has Procurement for the special metals, electronic components needed for their operations. Chemicals Business has Procurement skilled in special materials they need like Platinum for catalysts

For purposes of environmental due diligence on vendors who manage hazardous or regulated waste (e.g., used batteries & diesel fuel associated with generators -- not production line wastes), how many tiers down do companies vet? For instance if a multinational service vendor is willing to change out batteries providing new batteries and recycling old batteries, do you run environ due diligence on the battery recycler? What if the 1st tier service vendor claims its recycler to be "trade secret"?
