I am trying to figure out what I am not thinking about or considering. My staff want to use an AI Voice tool to create voice over for training. This one https://elevenlabs.io/ - What are the risks? Does anyone know the company behind this - are they legit and trust worthy? Where are they from?

AI voice, specifically text-to-speech, would be an excellent way to record voiceovers for training. When you take into count the the cost savings, accuracy of the translation and ease of implementation, I can't think of a more effective use for the technology. It's also important to mention the multilingual possibilities which would allow for limitless language translation.
TTS technology has vastly improved over the years with very natural sounding voices that include expression and appropriate accents. Listeners would be hard-pressed to tell the difference between AI voice and actual voiceover actors.
I've used Elevenlabs before and have had great success with the product. It's easy to use and functions well. As with all companies, it's advised to read the privacy policy and be wise with the data you share.
As long as you don't have it narrate anything you want to keep private up you should be fine. I've played around with eleven labs and its pretty good, especially for narrating explainer videos. I've used them for tech training videos for simple things, like resetting passwords, changing MFA, requesting software installations, how to long a trouble ticket, etc. Just be aware, that anything you give to an AI, could become part of their training models. So keep sensitive data away.
I dont have any working knowledge of this company but just like any company, reputable or not, I believe we must be very sensitive as to what type of company information we are inputting into these tools as we ultimately do not know if or where these can land up or be used. I believe these tools are currently best for mundane tasks.
Well... I dont' know that company... which doesn't mean they are legit and/or trust worthy.
What I would do if I were you is to decide, regardless of the AI provider that you choose, if your company is comfortable using an external tool for AI and if it puts any IP (Intellectual Property) at risk.
I see a lot of people excited with AI tool and in a very naive way sharing (e.g. copy pasting) IP without understanding the risks of doing that.
After your company decides if the risk is acceptable then it will be a matter of creating a short list of 3 providers, ask for feedback in your network and ask them customer references so that you can reach out to them and ask questions.
I hope this helps!
We’re currently looking at AI products and services, but I had not come across this vendor until now. The company is fairly new as most AI companies are. I also looked at the list of companies they indicated are using the product but didn’t see any larger organizations. Perhaps you can ask the vendor for references if you haven’t done so already.
Overall, there is some risk, but I think that is going to be true of most AI focused companies for a while.
