Embed tech people in other departments for short durations (or longer) and vice versa. Try to get as many people as possible from both sides to do this.

You need a liaison who can transcend the departments.
I have seen this succeed when you have a technical person with deep domain knowledge who is also able to talk to prospects or customers. Elevate that person. Move him more towards the field. Let all initial collaboration happen via that bridge. Don't rush it.
