Inner-source practices is a wonderful way to engage developers and technologists to engage with other capabilities and learn from their experiences. Through innersourcing organizations can achieve better collaboration, better software development practices and operational excellence.
We have seen significant improvements in collaboration and transparency. Not all projects are open but many of them which enabling effective cross-team contributions and fostering knowledge sharing from ideation to delivery. Openness drives innovation and boosts time to market. We use GitHub and team channels for collaboration which helps find solutions faster and increase the productivity.
Innersource is a great initiative but in my experience it’s important to have fulltime maintainers because a lot of time people who are contributing to innersource projects don’t have time for bug/security fixing that impatct other teams in production because they are on other projects with different priorities.
