What are the learnings and experiences one had while migrating SAP applications (large DB, about 40TB) from on-prem to the cloud, especially when it is being re-platformed (in our case, from HPUX to OEL). Appreciate if you can share tips, do's and dont's as well.

The other suggestions here are good - these are sensible things to watch out for and do.  I would also add checking your SAP amd OEM licensing very carefully. You haven't mentioned which cloud, but 40Tb is big enough that you may want to consider a data dump/load using an appliance vs loading over the wire.  (GCP Transfer Appliance, AWS Snowball or Azure Databox for example)

Migration Tips:
1. Purge and clean all data /user / old config/od backup - all necessary in on-prem itself.
2. Migrate everything in one go - and test all modules and features.
3. Take downtime and migrate according to org requirements and policies.
4. Sizing must be on the higher side in the cloud - after 30 days or so check all utilization and optimized cloud accordingly.
