Since COVID, our corporate employees (around 275 live near headquarters) have the option now to decide whether to come into the office or work from home and they can decide on a day to day basis. We use a scheduling software, Robin, to reserve work spaces. There are a few individuals who are in the office every day but they don't even have the option to have a set desk, they can just schedule 1 month in advance and make sure to continue to reserve in advance to keep their spot. We have 2 spots that are dedicated to a position that requires special equipment (a certain printer for AP and certain IT equipment) but other than that technically all other areas are up for grabs (even the CEOs office although no one would actually schedule it).
6 months or so prior to COVID we had implemented an optional hybrid policy of 3 days in the office / two at home and switching the next week. If you chose to participate, you shared your desk with one other employee and if you came in on an unassigned day, you had to find another workspace. Employees who did not participate were able to keep their workspace full time.
