We are considering implementing a new ERP or transitioning our current ERP to the cloud.  Curious if anyone has any insight into 3rd party consultants they have used with this project and some of the pros / cons of each? We are looking at engaging with either BCG, Deloitte, KPMG, Hackett Group, BDO.

When we transitioned to cloud ERP for both ERP and HCM, we used an RFP process which included Deloitte, Grant Thornton, KPMG and Hexaware. Each group made a presentation to a panel from our company, showcasing metrics on how they would implement our requirements.

We ultimately chose Deloitte as our implementation partner, but I can’t remember the exact metrics on why we chose them over other firms. I am happy with our decision to choose Deloitte because they were a great partner and I enjoyed working with the team they assigned. Like other firms, one of Deloitte’s principal tenets is that this should be a business transformation, not just a lift and shift of functionality, which we agreed with.

The Deloitte team pushed the functional leads to think – forget about todays processes, why would the Oracle-delivered functionality not work for our organization? Deloitte consultants were good at thinking outside the box this way and keeping us focused when we forgot that we aren’t just configuring the system to be the same as before.

Don’t forget that a consulting company is only as good as the functional leads they assign to the project. During our project, we had to have Deloitte replace one person who just wasn't a good fit for us. With Oracle Cloud ERP being newer in the market, there aren’t the normal group of consultants with 10-15 years of Oracle Cloud-specific experience, but obviously there are more consultants that may have Oracle Fusion on-prem experience and of course it is rare to find someone who truly understands how functionality works from a user experience end to end cross modules.

We have recently moved our large ERP systems & many other systems to Cloud. This was multi partner project. We achieved migration on time in budget with partner resources selected for the project for their expertise ranging from from Cloud Arch, specialists to systems Admins (DB, Sys, Application).

My team and I transitioned to a cloud-based ERP and partnered with a 3rd party vendor. We selected the vendor following an RFP process. Although it takes time and money, the RFP was well worth it as the team got to collectively decide and pick the vendor, they were most comfortable with. I recommend the process; it worked out well for us.

I have done this precise exercise as a CIO for a global IT Services company. There are two parts to deciding on this - technology skills on the choice and implementation of a Cloud (SaaS or hosted) ERP and, IMHO more important, the ability to do change management with all your internal leaders and CxOs. Having had poor experiences with 3rd party consultants on other projects the decision I took was to go with an ERP vendor partner, with proven experience and reference partners that I could reach out to prior to making a decision.  This offered both onshore and offshore capabilities, which works really well with our global footprint.  Genuinely feel a proper partnership and pulling in the same direction.
