corollary: shame on nvidia for selling a product they wouldn't ever use themselves ;-)
Not at all. We've already experimented with metal-in-closets approaches for AI and data science. I firmly believe that AI lives in the cloud, specifically the 367 zettabytes and growing universe of AI accessible data. AI withers and dies on the metal we want to put inside of our corporate boundaries, and the pipe in and out of a corporation from the cloud to a metal box is insufficient to appropriately nurture AIs almost organic need for access to this data cloud.
If an organisation is not already fully committed and transitioned to cloud, and is not already modeling it's reality and feeding its models data, then a box such as this may serve as a necessary learning on the realities of security and access in the 21st century. But for those looking forward, the fact that there is market demand for home-team controlled metal is a reflection of the turbulence during any information revolution.
