I'm confused as to why the answers to a question about edge computing all seem to involve data centers. To me, the edge is about computing in business locations: factories, stores, construction sites, pipelines, trucks, whatever... all places that you typically won't find a traditional data center or public cloud presence (though, granted, you can extend the latter through something like AWS Outpost).

We are in the early stages of looking at the DataBricks solution. Databricks mentioned that for some components they have a Managed Service (branded Serverless Option).  1. SQL Warehouses 2. Jobs Compute (Workflows) 3. Notebooks / Interactive Workbooks 4. Model Serving 

I wondered if anyone had looked at the pros and cons of hosting these services on their own cloud platform vs going for the Databricks hosted / managed option and any insights?
