Of course communications is always going to top the list. There are a couple of reasons for this (in my opinion). One of them is certainly going to stir some controversy. The first and least controversial reason, is that clear communications is important. It's not easy to master, and it doesn't always permeate the organization. The second, and more controversial reason, that communication always going to be on the list is because it's the crutch people lean on when they aren't good at execution. I'm always bothered when people ask questions like "what's the most important skill for X?" and the answer isn't "Knowing how to do X really well".
Wonder why EI or EQ isn’t topping here. While 70%+ people in a company are fairly good with communication, there’s no clear measure for EI as part of interview process. This often is a stumbling block that results in lack of humility, positive attitude and team work.
