It depends on the company and the specific leaders viewpoint. My company requires VP’s and above to be in Cincinnati for the finance department and work a hybrid schedule. Other departments are fine with remote. I am remote and was told I would have to move to Cincinnati if I got promoted to VP from Sr. Director. It will continue to become more and more normalized and accepted but it isn’t universally accepted yet.

I think this depends significantly on your industry and corporate culture but those in an office with the executive team have an advantage. There is some truth to "out of sight, out of mind".

So what can you do about it if you are a remote worker? First, make sure you add more value than your competition. Second, make sure to over communicate with your organization when you are remote.

I mean, they may be passed over at certain employers - but... If your workplace can't support the simplest employee wants, is that really where you want to work? There are now more options than ever.
