In my point of view, your focus is on developing expertise in a specialized area, actively seeking leadership opportunities, building a strong professional network, and advocating for yourself. Embrace technology, maintain a healthy work-life balance, and stay informed on industry trends. Promote diversity and inclusion, navigate challenges with resilience, and continuously invest in your education and personal brand to position yourself for senior roles in the legal field.
My grandfather had a great sense of humor. He often joked and would say to me that I needed to focus on education because it would take 15 college degrees to be qualified to flip a hamburger. He strongly encouraged me to continuously pursue learning. Reflecting back, I truly believe he was right and that achieving multiple professional licenses and certifications has made all the difference to my career trajectory and journey. I would offer the same recommendation for any aspiring female legal professional. Consider what credentials are available that would complement an area of your legal practice. For example, I hold multiple credentials including CPA, CIA, and CFE. These credentials help me be a better lawyer and business partner as I understand and can think beyond just the related laws and regulations. Also explore what additional training could be of value. For example, project management, six sigma, as well as strong command of specific software tools can offer relevant and transferable skillsets that can help you build a reputation and become the go-to solution provider and subject matter expert.
