Snowflake and Databricks are the industry leaders in the modern data landscape. However, Databricks as a platform it offers more features and functions for typical D&A and Advanced analytics. When it comes to snowflake, it made its stamp on cloud warehouse and lately investing in advanced features. Please make a conscious effort to size and compute that you needed for your workloads otherwise both platforms will surprise you with hefty billings at the month end.

Thanks a lot Giri Goparapu, appreciate the insights. Any thoughts on where Microsoft Fabric or Microsoft Synapse stand, in comparison to Databricks or Snowflake?

We run Snowflake and are in the process of piloting MSFT Fabric. The pricing model is drastically different from Snowflake in that you pay capacity for all services and there are things like bursts and cool-down. The key thing to know about Fabric is that MSFT is calling it SaaS, not PaaS, which is key. ALso know that you can run Databricks in Fabric and you can run Spark jobs (aka Synapse) in fabric capacity. You can also run them straight out of Azure as PaaS.

You really need to understand what you are wanting to do, the capabilities of the team, and design the best solution for your needs.
