Deployed Azure vWAN for internconnecting onPrem with Azure cloud through ExpressRoute and it is the best way for routing traffic from on-prem branch offices via SDWAN and from data centers via ExpressRoute. On Prem DC to Azure ExpressRoute to Azure vWAN to Azure Hub Vnet to NGFW to Spoke VNETS. There are many use case and best thing will be to do POC and work out which one will work for your environment.

Azure Virtual WAN (VWAN) with Fortinet's Next-Generation Firewalls (NGFW) on a global scale. However, the deployment of Fortinet's FortiGate Network Virtual Appliances (NVA) in conjunction with Azure services, including VWAN, is a common practice for organizations looking to secure their cloud environments.
