What do companies get wrong when it comes to integration?

At one company I worked for, they were using an integration tool that was running 2K jobs. I had an analysis done on them and 90% of the jobs were to move something from a system to a Google Sheet or an Excel spreadsheet. That was the whole job: Take this report in Salesforce and dump it into a sheet, but do it regularly. It was super basic stuff. In that particular role, I ran business intelligence, so I said, "That actually indicates that the data warehouse isn't doing its job right. We need to be directing these people to the data warehouse, not to these integration tools that are dumping data out of systems into random places in the business."

It's so hard for people to understand that their maintenance costs will go up to keep integration running. We have our CRM, our address resolution protocol (ARP), and a resource management tool. Everybody wants to integrate them all together so all the data is sent to each place. We need to just let the CRM do what it does best. Maybe find something that you can associate it with in the data warehouse across all these different applications and then do your reporting from there. Layer on your Databricks or Pablo on top of it.
