We are preparing for a Compliance week. Please can you share ideas of the activities you have carried out to raise awareness on compliance issues such as conduct, regulatory compliance and financial crime compliance?

First and foremost, I strongly believe that a good organization is effective only when compliance is at its core. Compliance to standards, processes, and guidelines should be an integral part of the organization's culture. As the saying goes, "Culture eats strategy for breakfast," and the culture of being compliant should be demonstrated at leadership levels. Every team member should prioritize compliance before completing their tasks, and this awareness is crucial for maintaining high standards.
One key recommendation I have is to start with a leadership pitch on compliance and its significance. When leaders emphasize the importance of compliance, it sets the tone for the entire organization. Additionally, engaging in small sessions like a "Compliance Hour," where the team openly discusses the importance of being compliant, can help identify gaps and address them effectively.
Educational videos are also a fantastic way to raise awareness. Circulating several short, impactful videos can help reinforce the importance of compliance and educate team members on areas they may not be clear about. It's also essential to pick up the top elements that need improvement and focus on them.
Finally, I recommend taking compliance as an organizational KPI and driving it over time to continuously improve. This will ensure that compliance becomes a natural part of the organization's culture and operations.
I hope these suggestions help, and I'm happy to discuss further or provide more details if needed. Feel free to post this reply on behalf of my account, or let me know if there's anything else I can assist with.
Throughout the week, we will post daily activities and messages to engage, educate, and inspire. These include:
- Daily Trivia Challenges to test our employee’s knowledge and give them an opportunity to win awesome prizes.
- Executive Team Interaction where some of our inspiring leaders recorded a message about the importance of living our values and respect in the workplace.
- Employee Engagement which includes testimonials and messages from several employees about living our values and respect in the workplace.
- Short virtual mini-course on mental health.
- Optional survey to get feedback on our speak-line and reporting
- We will wrap up the week with a Virtual Trivia Recharge, which is a fun and interactive way to for employees to connect with each other and an opportunity to win more prizes.
The activities are rolled out through email, on dedicated compliance intranet, and all monitors throughout the facility.

We do a hybrid in person and virtual week. We typically create themed activities where employees can answer program questions related to fraud/waste/abuse, seven compliance program elements of effectiveness, scenarios, and navigating policies and other compliance tools. We have done in person days with prizes drawn for participating. Themes over the years (used consistently across virtual and in person) include the Olympics, nursery rhymes, navigating the seas, camping, board games, etc. For Olympics last year we did golf, soccer, track relays, and more. None were "physical" activities.
