In practical sense data literacy for anyone means “mindset change”. Of course you have so called creating awareness on data analysis, data driven decisions, using digital tools etc. But all this will not happen if the mindset has not changed. I have seen sales professionals listening to all this topics and still go back to old ways. It has to come down as a purpose and why someone has to do it. Unfortunately most data literacy programmes lack this part and focus more of upskilling and reskilling. The main focus has to be on simplifying things and show the big picture (what is in it for me?)of all things you do.

Data literacy is essential and knowing how to use data either in our sales process with our customers to back up an approach or a position is critical. You have to look for the right people and the skills that they can bring, and also examples of how they have showcased data skills in the past. We train people on data literacy and data competence depending on the situation.
