I am updating new employee orientation. Orientation would be a combination of virtual first day and then onsite. I'd like to hear from companies that did a mix of in person and virtual orientation. For those using this model, what worked? What didn't work? What do you include day one? What areas do you focus onsite?

we don't do any virtual right now. when we have Workday we will use their onboarding module and plan to have a few minute video with an overview of the company, a letter from our CEO ahead of time, and some of the 'paperwork' like benefit elections done ahead of time with videos about our total rewards.
We have a in-person model with flexibility for virtual. What we do is that we add in the virtual folks to the in-person version using technology so they are not physically in the room but receive orientation at the same time. Our orientation is structured so that we are together on days 1 and 2 with lunch provided on day 1. Managers are invited to the lunch so they get to know their new hire. We have a tour of the building built into the orientation. On day 3 it is self paced. This model has worked the best for us and creates engagement.
