Who owns and manages HR data in your organization, and do you handle it differently? In our company, HR generalists own the data in our HRIS, and the HRIS team manages it. This setup reflects our understanding that HR personnel are closer to the employees and their data, while the HRIS team focuses on data integration between modules and ensuring data flows correctly from one point to another. How does your organization approach this?

Our HRIS team (which is in HR) owns the system and processes around the data. They are also responsible to looking across to understand permissions and roles to ensure the data is reliable and valid, and secure.  Each functional owner (e.g., performance, succession, compensation, etc) owns their own data and processes.

Same for us.  HRBPs are supposed to own the data, and they do a reasonably good job.  the HRIS team is responsible for the technical side of the HRIS and dealing with issues and queries.  However the HRIS team does need to run audit processes every so often to make sure the data is is good condition as things do slip through (fairly regularly).
