I have experienced using chat apps in a warehouse setting. This challenged our culture given a team communicating and building relationships in person is key.
Also you need to be careful around behaviours on text as this is an area that has been a challenge and led to bullying etc.

We use Red e App for our frontline staff.  While the tool itself is good, we have challenges with staff being willing to download an app to their personal phones.  We have run campaigns to incentivize, but still struggle.
