In what ways should a new IT leader rely on industry peers outside their organization when starting a new IT leadership role?

I found it helpful to share observations with peers outside the organization. They could see things and connect dots that I didn't, even though they didn't fully understand the details. Their perspective helped highlight key points I had overlooked due to the chaos and noise I was dealing with.

For me, reaching out to industry peers was a sanity check during those initial days. It felt like a storm in my brain, and I had many questions about whether I made the right decision. Having someone outside the organization as a calming sounding board was invaluable.
