At the risk of stating the obvious, delegation is a powerful growth opportunity, but you need put the right person in a position to be successful. Tactical meetings with clear rhythm and discipline are great starters because the outcomes visible and understandable. Facilitating strategic conversations with many perspectives requires a different meeting muscle. Those have a more people-centric nuance. I like equipping delegates with context and a scouting report of the people participating so they have advance EQ in those higher-level conversations.
Well said. Democratize meetings to bring the team together and create an atmosphere of collaboration rather than 'the boss' talking to (at) everyone. I find it very useful to never sit at the head/foot of the team. Leadership should be in the middle to surround yourself with the voices of your team.
Meetings seem to be a hot button topic in many organisations.
Which means they're being run wrong - especially if they end up being a platform for the most senior person to impart wisdom/will on the team.
Leadership is not about having all the answers, it's about know when to shut up and let others talk - that includes in meetings.
And, as a leader, sometimes the most valuable question you can ask is "do I even need to be there?"
