Can AI be used to effectively combat cybersecurity threats, or will it always be vulnerable to exploitation by malicious actors?

It depends upon how it is being used and who is using it
It cuts both ways. AI will be leveraged to prevent breaches and other malicious activities, but so too will AI be leveraged by bad actors in order to overcome new or existing obstacles. I think, if anything, we'll see the pace of innovation on both sides explode.
Chris you are spot on. AI is a two-sided coin, setting the stage for a showdown between the champions of good and the villains. The big question: who will come out on top? With cyberattacks on the rise, especially in healthcare, things are looking dicey.<br>
I personally believe it is too early to tell whether AI - using a mix of ML/LLM and related technology — will effectively combat cybersecurity threats at the levels the existing international standards for data and cyber breach response plans currently require. Engineering teams in my mind will need to become ethically smarter hackers to even prevent AI generated attacks on cybersecurity infrastructure.

There certainly are new AI powered cyber security solutions popping up. Take a look at https://www.vidocsecurity.com.
No one can guarantee the AI will have its own vulnerabilities and be susceptible to attacks, but that applies to every cybersecurity solution.
