It’s been debated in limited circles. Very few job roles are interested in this incident. Mainly the discussion is about what constitutes critical and unusual circumstances. We have talked about this in a few different forums at my organization, and some say “Great, we'll take the help.” Others say it's an invasion of privacy. It always helps to provide some background, even if the event is unmistakable and fresh in everyone's memory 🙂 see the link at the bottom. As the referenced article suggests: "Even if the intent was good – in short, helping to protect the businesses by removing the access of cyber attackers, and authorised by the courts – this is a significant step by law enforcement."
If there's a debate, it is focused on better understanding of the new realities and on how we continue to engage with various Government/Industry initiatives to drive positive outcomes.
These are very complicated, multi-faceted issues that will take a long while to address properly. Until then, it will probably remain on a case by case basis.
