How do global organisations with large frontline operations continuously listen to their frontline operatives to keep their fingers on the pulse? What questions do they ask and how frequently do they take the pulse checks?

We conduct quarterly employee engagement surveys, and we drill down to the divisions operational level. The questions are aligned to our HR themed employee goals which are centered around recognition, speak your mind and psychological safety. We report out the findings to the HRBPs that support the divisions, and they use the data to drive new engagement initiatives and/or leader talking points for town halls, etc.

A few ways are used to continuously listen and keep our fingers on the pulse. First, an employee survey is completed every two years. As a follow-up to the survey, conversations are held with the senior leaders, HR, and business officer of each group that reflect the group's results are shared. Discussion at these meetings focuses around what a group might do to improve in respective areas. In addition, participants of leadership programs, that are held multiple times a year with different participants in each program, are asked what is working and what is not working and the VP CHRO meets with each group attending a week-long program and opens the floor for questions and comments. The Organizational Development and Effectiveness group also hears things and works with teams to address them in sessions and retreats. Another way is through an employee assembly (EA) that meets regularly throughout the year. The EA is continually gathering information through its membership and reporting back to the larger body who then has discussions with the appropriate senior leadership.
