HRBP plays important role in any of the organization. All of the competencies indicated in UNICEF competencies framework are required for HRBP and it's applied at each different level. But the most or the basic one are work collaboratively with others, willing to listening and proactively looking for solution. As a business partner HR must have ability to think strategically for both individual and organizational development. In supporting that, the communication skills are also essential. With the technological advancements as now a days, HR should also be able to analyze the data and comes up with the solutions and the strategic plan.

A lot can be found on the topic in internet, Gartner and other trusted resources, yet companies might shape and answer this question differently. Perhaps it makes sense to try to understand how the HR BP role in a certain company is defined, the expectations toward the role, how it is positioned in the overall HR structure and the major stakeholders it works with.

Business acumen, strategic thinking, communication and influencing, good understanding of processes - part of employee lifecycle, analytical skills (be able to work with and analyse data), relationship building, etc. are some of the major competencies and HR BP should have. You can throw few other soft skills (decision-making, problem-solving, collaboration) for extra credit :) Still.. what matters most is how this role is viewed by the management as a  contributor to the company success and growth.

As much as skills and competence in Communication, Employee relations, relationship management and problem solving is important for an HRBP, I believe having a strong business acumen is vital, as it enables HRBPs to understand the intricacies of the business they support and the industry in which the organization operates. In addition to this, having a strategic mindset and critical thinking skills is also important as it allows HRBPs to align HR strategies with business objectives effectively. HRBPs must act as true 'Partners' with the business, fostering collaboration and driving overall success and growth for the organization and their people.

There is some info in Gartner on this already. The Australian Human Resources Institute also has an excellent guide that members can access.
