Does anyone have a good resource (research, article, model, etc.) for designing, developing, and implementing a new employee Nesting or Soft Landing Program?  We have a robust orientation and onboarding (includes company culture, compliance, systems, service, role-based skills training, etc.) and look to build the nest or soft landing following onboarding and prior to independent work.

I have experience building robust onboarding programs using the 30-60-90 approach - I've automated this using Workday and included mentor check-ins, phased learning assignments, and new hire 'meet-ups' to help them acclimate into the culture.  I'm really interested in Workday Journeys, but we've not been able to implement that just yet.

I also wanted to pass along a few resources that may be helpful. The First 90 Days by Michael Watkins offers a framework for supporting new employees through transitional periods with an emphasis on structured guidance. The Onboarding Model by SHRM provides insights into creating a phased onboarding experience, emphasizing role-specific mentoring, skill reinforcement, and gradual exposure to independent tasks. For research on best practices, Josh Bersin’s articles on onboarding and employee experience offer data-driven insights into effective support phases that enhance confidence and performance readiness, bridging the gap between formal training and full autonomy.

Have you tried the 30 60 90 day roadmap?  I have used this approach before and it has worked quite well.  Depending on the complexities and working culture, you can define the key components according to your needs.  For the banks I have worked before, adapting to the corporate culture is key.  Hence, while on the one hand, there will be sufficient resources and arrangements to cover the key product and processes knowledge, we will identify key stakeholders the new colleague need to meet.  For senior hires, there will also be a visit to HQ within the 30 to 60 days window.  A buddy will also be assigned to provide additional support for seamless integration.
